GNU emacs 24.1 comes with eieio-1.3.
If I have my own CEDET-1.1, which comes with eieio-1.4, and I try to load it "as early as possible", emacs's loading process still says: "Outdated eieio 1.3 just installed".
I think I started with CEDET because of Gnus. But does Gnus need the modern eieio-1.4 at all?

No Gnus v0.13 is released

It seems to depend on EIEIO ("Enhanced Implementation of Emacs Interpreted Objects"), a new CLOS implementation; apparently EIEIO must get installed manually.
EIEIO in turn is part of CEDET ("Collection of Emacs Development Environment Tools").
